The Church of the Brethren\u2019s Part-Time Pastor; Full-Time Church program will be sponsoring \u201cPracticing the Way: The Sabbath Practice\u201d for all multi-vocational pastors this Spring. Over four Monday sessions, the group will spend time learning about the practice of Sabbath, practicing the practice (in between sessions), reflecting on the practice, and processing the practice together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sessions will take place at 7 p.m. (Eastern time) on April 13, April 20, April 27, and May 4.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an explanation of the Sabbath practice, the organizers reference Practicing the Way<\/em>, a book by John Mark Comer. \u201cWe find nine different Spiritual Practices (Sabbath, Solitude, Scripture, Prayer, Fasting, Generosity, Community, Service, and Witness) that can help followers of Jesus \u2018Be with Jesus, Become like Jesus, Do as He Did.\u2019 In this cohort we will explore and practice the spiritual practice of Sabbath\u2026a twenty-four-hour time period set aside to stop, rest, delight, and worship. It is the best day of the week. In our era of chronic exhaustion, emotional unhealth, and spiritual stagnation, few things are more necessary than the recovery of this ancient practice.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

What to expect:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Session I will focus on Stop.<\/strong> God built a rhythm of rest into the fabric of creation. When we live in alignment with this ancient rhythm, we find peace and joy, but when we fight it, we fracture our souls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Session II will focus on Rest.<\/strong> Sabbath isn\u2019t just a day off to take a long nap\u2014it\u2019s a form of resistance that requires us to fight powerful forces that war against Sabbath spirituality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Session III will focus on Delight.<\/strong> Sabbath is a full day set aside to celebrate our life with God in his world, and it is designed to be done in community\u2014a life-giving day of delight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Session IV will focus on Worship.<\/strong> Sabbath isn\u2019t just a day to stop, rest, and throw a feast in community\u2014it\u2019s a holy day set apart and dedicated to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
