This free event sponsored by the Susquehanna Valley Ministry Center (SVMC) is in-person only. Continuing education credit is available for the fee of $10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGet back to Love Feast basics with Dr. Denise Kettering-Lane, Associate Professor of Brethren Studies at Bethany Theological Seminary,\u201d said an announcement. \u201cAs you prepare for Love Feast this year, root yourself in the historical practices of the Brethren, and explore what new and exciting ways Love Feast can be adapted or revitalized in your own congregation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event is offered in three sessions, all on the same day, with lunch included (lunch is limited to the first 25 registrants):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Session 1, \u201cWhat is Love Feast?\u201d<\/strong> will be held in the Chapel, Nicarry Meetinghouse, and will review the Love Feast elements of preparation, feetwashing, a shared meal, and communion, and will discuss changes in how these elements have been lived out over the years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"527\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/01\/LoveFeastEvent-600px.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26498\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/01\/LoveFeastEvent-600px.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/01\/LoveFeastEvent-600px-300x264.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/01\/LoveFeastEvent-600px-560x492.jpg 560w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cLunch and Learn for Pastors and Deacons\u201d<\/strong> (11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.) will be held in the Board Room, Nicarry Meetinghouse, when participants will have the opportunity to discuss strategies for encouraging Love Feast within their congregations and consider strategies for adapting or revitalizing the practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Session 2, \u201cWhat does Love Feast look like?\u201d<\/strong> will be held in the Board Room, Nicarry Meetinghouse, and will discuss how Love Feast can look different in different congregations and contexts. It will emphasize different practical aspects of Love Feast and demonstrate some practices, such as feetwashing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Denise Kettering-Lane<\/strong> is associate professor of Brethren Studies and director of the MA Program at Bethany Theological Seminary. She holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in religion from Ashland University in Ohio, a master\u2019s in Theological Studies from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., and a doctorate in Religious Studies from the University of Iowa. She has served as a research fellow at both the University of Iowa and the Institute for European History in Mainz, Germany. In previous service in the Church of the Brethren she was an archival assistant at the Brethren Historical Library and Archives.
