She will primarily focus on immigration policy by also providing legal expertise on related issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sowles has a bachelor\u2019s from Manchester College\u2014now Manchester University\u2014in North Manchester, Ind., where she graduated in 1972 with a degree in history and mathematics; a Juris Doctor degree from Valparaiso University School of Law in Indiana (1975); and a Master of Laws (L.L.M) from Yale Law School (1980). From September 1987 to Jan. 3, 2025, she was a trial attorney with the Civil Division of the US Department of Justice, where she represented federal agencies in litigation.
