A call for prayer for those affected by Hurricane Helene and its aftermath–with special thought for the hardest-hit areas of northwest Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Virginia–has been made by Church of the Brethren general secretary David Steele.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAll those who have suffered from this devastating storm are in need of our prayers and our help,\u201d he said. \u201cI invite your prayers for everyone who has lost loved ones, those who have lost homes or businesses, the communities that have been destroyed, and those who are displaced and those lacking basic necessities like food, water, and power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHaving received a personal call from Andy Hamilton, district executive minister in Southeastern District, I heard his characterization of the destruction in his district as \u2018catastrophic.\u2019 Please pray for our brothers and sisters in the congregations of Southeastern District, and the Brethren who may have been affected elsewhere,\u201d he said. Southeastern District includes churches in North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Alabama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Steele also noted that the community of Lake Junaluska, N.C., which hosts the Church of the Brethren\u2019s National Older Adult Conference (NOAC) every other year, is in the area where flooding has occurred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
