The volunteers provided a calm and supportive presence for 21 children while their parents and guardians sought assistance at a Local Assistance Center (LAC). CDS volunteers played an essential role in helping children cope with the stress and trauma of the disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The wildfire, which began on Sept. 9, burned more than 23,519 acres in Trabuco Canyon, Orange County, Calif., forcing evacuations. The blaze spread east into Riverside County, affecting the community of Lake Elsinore. As of Sept. 20, the fire burned 23,519 acres and was 74 percent contained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CDS is grateful for the opportunity to serve the Lake Elsinore community and support children in need during this difficult time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8212; Carolyn Neher is associate director of Children\u2019s Disaster Services.
