\u201cThe deadline for \u2018The History of the Church of the Brethren\u2019 course is quickly approaching,\u201d<\/strong> said an announcement from the Brethren Academy for Ministerial Leadership. \u201cIf you are interested in the course for TRIM or EFSM credit, CEU credits, or personal enrichment, please do not let the registration deadline pass by without learning more.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Registration deadline is July 31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe History of the Church of the Brethren\u201d<\/strong> is an online course from Aug. 21-Oct. 15, 2024, taught by Denise Kettering-Lane, associate professor of Brethren Studies at Bethany Theological Seminary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHow has the Brethren movement developed over time? How have Brethren confronted issues in the broader society, such as slavery, war, or prohibition? This course will answer these questions and others by exploring the history of the Brethren movement, beginning with its origins in Schwarzenau, Germany and tracing its development through over 300 years of history,\u201d said a description of the course. \u201cWhile this course will predominantly focus on the Church of the Brethren, the class will also touch briefly on other Brethren groups. The course will investigate the social historical contexts in which the Brethren emerged in Europe, immigrated to North America, and spread to other countries. A focus of the course will be on the changes and continuities among the Brethren in interaction with surrounding cultures.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building Bridges Courses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As part of Bethany Seminary\u2019s initiative to \u201cBuild Bridges Across Ideological Divides,\u201d the academy is offering a series of TRIM-level courses to help clergy recognize and meaningfully address division in their congregations and communities. The courses listed below are a part of this series and will either address the topic in part or as the main theme of the course:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIntroduction to Worship,\u201d <\/strong>an online course with Zoom sessions, Jan. 15-March 11, 2025, with instructor Christy Waltersdorff; register by Dec. 11, 2024<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLeadership and Administration for the Now and Future Church,\u201d<\/strong> an online course, Aug. 13-Oct 7, 2025, with instructor Audrey Hollenberg-Duffey, coordinator of English-Language Ministry Training Programs for the Brethren Academy; register by Sept. 11, 2024<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIntercultural Competence,\u201d <\/strong>an intensive at Bethany Seminary in Richmond, Ind., spring 2025 (dates to be announced), with instructor Darla Kay Deardorff<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIntro to Preaching,\u201d <\/strong>spring 2026 (dates to be announced), with instructor Dawn Ottoni Wilhelm, Brightbill Professor of Preaching and Worship at Bethany Seminary<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These and other English-language courses from the Brethren Academy may be taken for continuing education, personal enrichment, or credit for those in the Training in Ministry (TRIM)\/Education for Shared Ministry (EFSM) programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
