The Office of Peacebuilding and Policy and the Brethren Creation Care Network are sponsoring an educational walking tour of the Ken-O-Sha watershed in Grand Rapids, Mich., during Annual Conference. This special event is not listed in the Conference booklet but is available to Conference attendees free of charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tour takes place at 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, July 6<\/strong>, following a related equipping session titled \u201cConnecting Local Action to Global Advocacy: Practicing Embodied Faith to Restore Creation,\u201d which takes place that same afternoon at 12 noon-1:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

William Miller, assistant professor of biology at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, and a member of the Brethren Creation Care Network, will lead an exploration of the watershed–also known as Plaster Creek–from its headwaters to its confluence with the main river that runs by the convention center where the Conference is taking place. The tour will offer insight into impairments, environmental justice issues, and watershed restoration practices, including those related to the Doctrine of Discovery and ancestral lands.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

To join the tour, gather on Lyon Street at the southwest entrance of the convention center (next to the Civic Center Auditorium) at 1:50 p.m. A van will take participants to several areas of the watershed, and most stops will only require short walks of less than 500 feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
