The prayer vigil was followed by a nonviolent direct action in the Russell Senate Office Building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faith leaders who were at the prayer vigil included Joyce Ajlouny, general secretary of the American Friends Service Committee (Quakers); Mubarak Awad, the Palestinian founder of Nonviolence International; Mae Elise Cannon, executive director of Churches for Middle East Peace; Jonathan Kuttab, executive director of Friends of Sabeel North America; Graylan Hagler of the Fellowship of Reconciliation; and Scott Wright, a Pax Christi USA Ambassador of Peace.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"295\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/PrayerVigil-600px.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/PrayerVigil-600px.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/PrayerVigil-600px-300x148.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/03\/PrayerVigil-600px-560x275.jpg 560w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a press release from Christians for Ceasefire, the prayer vigil \u201chad powerful words calling for prayers for a permanent ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and proper respect for everyone. Attendees heard heartbreaking statistics of the continued violation of humanity in Gaza, and a lamentation was read throughout the prayer vigil.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the nonviolent witness in the Russell Senate Office Building, 12 people were arrested \u201cafter standing in the formation of a cross in the center of the building\u2019s rotunda while singing out phrases such as \u2018Food not war,\u2019 \u2018Children are dying in Gaza,\u2019 and \u2018No more bombing hospitals,\u2019\u201d said the press release.
