The Church of the Brethren Nursing Scholarship is available for 2024, providing up to $2,000 for RN and graduate nurse candidates and up to $1,000 for LPN candidates. Scholarships are awarded to a limited number of applicants each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This scholarship, made possible by the Health, Education and Research Endowment, is available to members of the Church of the Brethren enrolled in LPN, RN, or nursing graduate programs. More information and an application form are at www.brethren.org\/nursingscholarships<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Applications and supporting documentation are due by April 1 of each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two of our nursing scholarship recipients share their passion for nursing:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emma Arnold understands the challenges of being on the mission field with limited resources require flexibility. Given her background with Church of the Brethren workcamps and Samaritan\u2019s Purse International Relief she has solid insight into medical missionary work and cannot wait to get back out into the field as a nurse. This has motivated her to learn as much as she can while in school, knowing that someday she may be in a situation that requires even more adaptability and critical thinking than if she was working in a fully equipped medical facility. She feels called to use her training as a nurse to advance the gospel by providing medical care in areas of the world where there is a need. Her heart cries out: \u201cHere I am Lord, send me.\u201d She attends Conestoga Church of the Brethren in Leola, Pa.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

From a young age, Ben Smoker had always been fascinated by healthcare workers and first responders. His mother\u2019s 30 years of nursing provided him with a glimpse into the profession. \u201cPeople come into the hospital at the worst points in their life whether they are sick, broken, depressed, or even dying. Knowing that I have the opportunity every day to make a difference in someone\u2019s life and share a little bit of love with them is the most fulfilling thing I can do.\u201d He believes that nursing is the perfect profession for that. He has spent countless hours working at the local hospital and serves local high schoolers with special needs. He continues, \u201cHaving this scholarship would assist me greatly in being able to submit fully to my classes and involve myself in learning.\u201d He attends Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren in Weyers Cave, Va.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
