{"id":23035,"date":"2023-11-16T21:03:34","date_gmt":"2023-11-16T21:03:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/?p=23035"},"modified":"2023-11-16T21:03:53","modified_gmt":"2023-11-16T21:03:53","slug":"prayer-vigil-for-ceasefire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/2023\/prayer-vigil-for-ceasefire\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Prayer Vigil: Ceasefire Now!\u2019 will pray for peace in Israel and Palestine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The Church of the Brethren\u2019s Office of Peacebuilding and Policy is among the sponsors of a time of prayer for peace in Israel and Palestine to be held in-person in the nation\u2019s capital this coming Monday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The event titled \u201cPrayer Vigil: Ceasefire Now!\u201d is planned for Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. (Eastern time) at Lafayette Square in Washington, D.C.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This ecumenical event is co-sponsored by the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA (NCC) and many other ecumenical partners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An announcement from Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP), of which the Church of the Brethren is a member denomination, noted that \u201cthe speakers and sponsoring organizations are in agreement calling for a bilateral ceasefire, immediate and adequate humanitarian assistance to Gaza, and the release of hostages.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/11\/NCCPrayerVigil-600px.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23036\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/11\/NCCPrayerVigil-600px.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/11\/NCCPrayerVigil-600px-300x175.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/11\/NCCPrayerVigil-600px-560x326.jpg 560w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that flame candles will be allowed, but only with protectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speakers include Leslie Copeland-Tune of the NCC; William J. Barber, II, of Repairers of the Breach and Yale Center for Public Theology and Public Policy; Mariann Edgar Budde, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington; Mae Elise Cannon of Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP); Shane Claiborne of Red Letter Christians; Michelle Dunne of the Franciscan Action Network; Hassan El-Tayyab of the Friends Committee for National Legislation; Susan Gunn of the Maryknoll Office of Global Concern; Lisa Sharon Harper of Freedom Road; Bridget Moix, general secretary of the Friends Committee for National Legislation; Leila Ortiz, bishop of the Metropolitan Washington D.C.
