The Brethren Academy for Ministerial Leadership is offering a Directed Independent Study Unit (DISU) in conjunction with the Ministers\u2019 Association pre-Annual Conference event titled \u201cHealing Racial Trauma: The Road to Resilience\u201d with Sheila Wise Rowe<\/strong>. The course will be offered July 3-4 in Cincinnati, Ohio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The DISU will incorporate the Ministers\u2019 Association event as well as reading and class discussion before and after the event. Audrey Hollenberg-Duffey will serve as instructor. She is the new coordinator of English-Language Ministry Training Programs for the Brethren Academy. She also serves as a co-pastor with her spouse, Tim Hollenberg-Duffey, at Oakton Church of the Brethren in northern Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please pray\u2026 <\/strong>For all who gather at the Ministers\u2019 Association event prior to the 2023 Annual Conference of the Church of the Brethren. Give thanks for the leadership of Sheila Wise Rowe and the instruction provided by Audrey Hollenberg-Duffey.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Students who participate in this DISU will take Wise Rowe\u2019s work and further apply it to their lives and their ministries. After completing this course, students will be able to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

— understand Wise Rowe\u2019s articulation of racism, trauma, and resiliency;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

— articulate the problem of racial trauma using faith-based language; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

— guide a conversation with a congregation who wishes to better understand the roots and problems of racial trauma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
