{"id":21433,"date":"2023-03-17T21:40:29","date_gmt":"2023-03-17T21:40:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/?p=21433"},"modified":"2023-03-17T23:15:45","modified_gmt":"2023-03-17T23:15:45","slug":"brethren-bits-for-march-17-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/2023\/brethren-bits-for-march-17-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Brethren bits for March 17, 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>\u2014<\/strong>The <strong>Church of the Brethren\u2019s Office of Peacebuilding and Policy<\/strong> is one of 62 faith-based organizations sending a letter to members of Congress calling on legislators to dramatically cut militarized spending, reinvest in the wellbeing of communities, and curtail the harms of the United States militarized foreign policy.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/afsc.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-03\/Pentagon%20Spending%20Letter%20FY2024.pdf\">Read the full letter here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p><strong>\u2014<\/strong>At <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/yya\/ccs\/\">Christian Citizenship Seminar 2023<\/a><\/strong>, held in Washington, D.C., April 22-27, youth in high school and the first year of college&nbsp;will learn about the climate crisis in relation to food security, gain tools to address Congress, hear examples of local communities\u2019 ministry and Church of the Brethren churches around the world, and strengthen their biblical understanding of God\u2019s love in this work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The culminating activity will be when youth meet with their legislators on Capitol Hill, encouraging them to enact laws that prioritize the most vulnerable. To get ready for that visit, youth will engage in a variety of learning sessions about different facets of the problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides these learning sessions, youth will meet and talk with others from across the country in small groups. On Sunday morning, all will enjoy ecumenical worship in a variety of settings in the city. Cultural opportunities, like visiting museums and national monuments, provide additional enrichment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/yya\/ccs\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/yya\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2022\/09\/Hot-and-Hungry.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2014<\/strong>Jen Houser, director of the <strong>Brethren Historical Library and Archives, invites people to volunteer<\/strong> in the archives. \u201cWe would love to have some volunteers, whether short-term or long-term, to help us process our backlog of materials, organize our space and materials, or help us complete other projects.\u201d For more information, contact Houser at <a href=\"mailto:brethrenarchives@brethren.org\">brethrenarchives@brethren.org<\/a> or 847-429-4368.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2014<\/strong>The <strong>Church of the Brethren presently seeks to fill the following positions<\/strong>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Associate Director of Children&#8217;s Disaster Services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Volunteer Coordinator of Brethren Volunteer Service<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Brethren Historical Library and Archives intern (paid) <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Find the details at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/about\/employment\/ \">https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/about\/employment\/ <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2014<\/strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.campbrethrenheightsmi.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Camp Brethren Heights<\/a> has an opening for part-time Camp Director. The camp, founded in 1949, is 70 ecologically diverse acres on the western shores of Jehnsen Lake. The program includes a catered dinner and music and is open to all those over 21 in the Southern Ohio\/Kentucky district. Church of the Brethren<\/strong> (LCOB) on March 25, at 7 p.m., as part of the congregation\u2019s Starlight Tea concert series.&nbsp;In keeping with the Starlight Tea tradition, tea and cookies will be served following the concert. Church of the Brethren<\/strong>. The group meets each Monday to sew useful items from recycled T-shirts and pillowcases.
