CCW announces #NoDraft contest <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Center for Conscience and War invites high school students to submit short videos on why they oppose the draft and Selective Service registration. The deadline is May 15, and winning videos will receive cash prizes up to $1,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHelp us spark a real conversation and inspire a movement to end Selective Service and the draft once and for all!\u201d the website states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creation Justice Ministries offers resources, requests prayer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Helen Smith, Policy Advocate with Creation Justice Ministries, invites individuals and congregations to pray for Oak Flat<\/strong>, situated in the Tonto National Forest about an hour outside Phoenix, Ariz.  on March 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She writes, \u201cChi\u2019chil Bi\u0142dagoteel, also known as Oak Flat, is in danger. Oak Flat is a sacred site for the Apache people, but the site is on the docket to be destroyed for copper mining. This sacred space is not only important to the Apache and other Indigenous communities but is an important desert ecosystem. The Apache need our help to protect this sacred site and God\u2019s precious creations around it\u2026. If copper mining was to move forward, underground water channels and major aquifers would be damaged or destroyed, in addition to a native year-round source of flowing water and deep well of aquifer water.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ecumenical Advocacy Days, an annual gathering of Christian advocates and activists, will hold a virtual conference April 25-27, to worship, delve deeply into the pressing issues of the day, and speak truth to power on Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2023 theme is “Swords into Plowshares: Achieving Enough for All & Pursuing Peace.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the EAD website, \u201cNo one can serve two masters; we cannot excel in both war and justice, both wealth and mercy. We cannot take by force what is intended to be shared. Let us heed Christ\u2019s call and gather as one body to discern how we can re-forge weapons of destruction into tools of growth, cultivate healing throughout God\u2019s creation, and pursue systems that empower each person to thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

World Council of Churches invites action <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As year 2023 marks the 70th anniversary of establishing a ceasefire in the Korean War, the World Council of Churches (WCC) calls on churches worldwide to join advocacy for the Korea Peace Appeal<\/strong> campaign promoting the transition from armistice agreement to peace treaty for the Korean Peninsula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
