Preparations for National Youth Conference (NYC) have begun on the campus of Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo. Among those already on campus working toward the opening of the conference are the National Youth Cabinet, the NYC co-coordinators Audrey Hollenberg and Emily LaPrade, director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry Becky Ullom, and a number of church volunteers and staff.<\/p>\n

The work to prepare for a conference like NYC can be rigorous and requires detailed organization. Packets are being stuffed for each participant, including name tag, NYC book, meal ticket, music CD, and more. Some packets include T-shirts\u00a0for those who have purchased them ahead of time. Staff and volunteers who are working the Conference get a special t-shirt of their own, distinguished by a different color from the youth.<\/p>\n

Other preparations include the final planning for worship services, plans for overhead projection and stage set up in the Moby Arena on the CSU campus, planning for the hiking trips to the mountains–in which busloads of NYCers will participate–along with the service projects around town that are to take place each afternoon Monday through Wednesday next week. Recreation must be planned for events like the 5K run early Monday morning, the ultimate frisbee tournament, and more.<\/p>\n

And main speakers must be welcomed, including a number of Brethren such as Angie Lahman Yoder of Circle of Peace Church of the Brethren in Arizona, and Brethren Revival Fellowship leader Jim Myer–as well as outside speakers and presenters such as Ted and Co., a Christian drama troupe, and well known young Christian peacemakers like Shane Claiborne of Philadelphia and Jarrod McKenna of Australia.<\/p>\n

NYC participants will begin arriving on Saturday morning, and the opening picnic and worship service take place Saturday evening, July 17. NYC will continue through Thursday morning, July 22.<\/p>\n
