Here are some glimpses of the day:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cJust after daybreak, Jesus stood on the beach, but the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them, \u2018Children, you have no fish, have you?\u2019 They answered him, \u2018No.\u2019 He said to them, \u2018Cast the net to the right side of the boat, and you will find some\u2019\u201d (John 21:4-6a, NRSVue).<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI want you to notice emptiness, because sometimes the Holy Spirit uses emptiness to create . . . a holy hunger for something more\u2026. The point is Jesus at work in the emptiness, and now asking them to go fill the emptiness of others\u2026. Notice the emptiness around you\u2026and go to meet your neighbors at their point of emptiness, and for heaven\u2019s sake give this world something better to believe in\u2026. Don\u2019t wait for a better messenger, don\u2019t wait for a better time, don\u2019t wait for a better church, just go!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8212; Jeremy Ashworth, pastor of Circle of Peace Church of the Brethren in Peoria, Ariz., preaching the closing sermon on John 21. This story, which takes place after the resurrection, finds Jesus on the beach, encouraging his disciples to try the other side of the boat when their nets are empty after a long night of fishing. Photo by Glenn Riegel<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<p><strong>NYC final numbers:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>580<\/strong> youth<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>224 <\/strong>adult advisors<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>97<\/strong> NYC staff including denominational staff and volunteers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>154<\/strong> congregations represented<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4<\/strong> countries represented: Canada, the Dominican Republic, Spain, and the United States<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>25<\/strong> states and the District of Columbia represented: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>444<\/strong> diapers assembled out of old T-shirts, in a service project for Diapers for Haiti<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3,102<\/strong> school kits assembled, with sponsorship from Brethren Disaster Ministries.
