{"id":16617,"date":"2021-04-09T17:19:00","date_gmt":"2021-04-09T17:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/?p=16617"},"modified":"2021-04-09T22:22:39","modified_gmt":"2021-04-09T22:22:39","slug":"twelve-mini-grants-are-given","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/2021\/twelve-mini-grants-are-given\/","title":{"rendered":"Twelve mini-grants are given through program for Racial Justice and Healing Racism"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Twelve congregations and districts across the denomination have received mini-grants for Racial Justice and Healing Racism through the Church of the Brethren Intercultural Ministries:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Antelope Park Church of the Brethren <\/strong>in Lincoln, Neb., received $747 for a speaker, curriculum, and advertising for a racial justice and healing program, reaching out into the community to broaden racial conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Atlantic Southeast District\u2019s Cross-Cultural Team<\/strong> received $650 for a district-wide discussion of <em>Oneness Embraced<\/em> by Tony Evans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Central Church of the Brethren in Roanoke, Va.,<\/strong> received $381.83 to purchase books for a book study of<em> The Color of Compromise<\/em> by Jemar Tisby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Chicago (Ill.) First Church of the Brethren<\/strong> received $700 for outside speakers, educational materials, and supplies to engage the community through a series of weekly conversations about the impact of the criminal justice system on African American and other BIPOC groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Creekside Church of the Brethren in Elkhart, Ind.,<\/strong> received $192 for a guest speaker and books for a congregational program on interrupting racism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Harrisburg (Pa.) First Church of the Brethren<\/strong> received $750 for guest speakers for a program creating awareness and taking action on the inequity of the current education system for Black and Brown communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mid-Atlantic District<\/strong> received $750 for facilitators from On Earth Peace and an assessment tool for district congregations around the topic of racial healing. The goal is to support the work of congregations by providing resources and a collaborative space for congregations working towards healing racism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Peace Covenant Church of the Brethren in Durham, N.C.,<\/strong> received $748 for educating the congregation, community, and outreach ministries via books highlighting healing racism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Southern Ohio and Kentucky District\u2019s Racial Justice Team<\/strong> received $750 towards speaker honorariums for a seven-week study on racial justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stone Church of the Brethren in Huntingdon, Pa.,<\/strong> received $750 for \u201cIt\u2019s a Small World Book Project\u201d to have a congregation-wide conversation. The church also is exploring hosting a speaker series similar to that held in Southern Ohio and Kentucky District in March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Virlina District\u2019s Race Education Team<\/strong> received $500 for an outreach to district churches \u201cencouraging \u2018living like Jesus\u2019 by loving and accepting all people created in God\u2019s image.\u201d The effort also includes a Lending Library at the district Resource Center with books on the history of race and the church\u2019s historical response to racism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Westminster (Md.)
