Brethren Academy hosts annual Clergy Tax Seminar, ‘Brethren, We Have Met to Worship,’ among other upcoming courses

Upcoming events from the Brethren Academy for Ministerial Leadership include the annual Clergy Tax Seminar with leadership from Deb Oskin, scheduled for Feb. 1, 2025, as an online webinar; and the course “Brethren, We Have Met to Worship” with leadership from Christy Waltersdorff, scheduled for Jan. 15-March 11, 2025, as an online course via the Moodle virtual classroom.

Crucial Christian conversations on racial justice and racism

Let’s take the opportunity, in small groups of three or four people, to share, listen to, and process our feelings and observations about racial justice and racism in our lives as Brethren by coming together via Zoom on Nov. 23 from 1-5 p.m. (Eastern time). During this four-hour session, members of the Standing with People of Color Committee will help you experience the “7 Prompts” and the BELOVED model of communication first-hand.

November Ventures course to focus on understanding grief

The November offering from the Ventures in Christian Discipleship program at McPherson (Kan.) College will be “Understanding Your Grief to Find Hope and Healing” to be presented by Chris Whitacre and Kathy Reid. The course will be held online in two sessions, Tuesdays, Nov. 19 and 26, both at 7-8:30 p.m. (central time).

Standing with People of Color Committee offers October trainings

This month, the Standing with People of Color Committee of the Church of the Brethren Annual Conference is offering two opportunities for facilitator training for those interested in leading a “7 Prompts” conversation in their communities and congregations.

The October offering from the Ventures in Christian Discipleship program at McPherson (Kan.) College will be “Happiness in Hard Times: A View from the Psalms” to be presented by Stephen Reid, vice provost for Faculty Diversity and Belonging at Baylor University in Texas. The course will be held online in two sessions, Tuesdays, Oct. 8 and 15, both at 6:30-8:30 p.m. (central time).
