The Church of the Brethren’s Global Food Initiative (GFI) is a partner organization to Bread for the World and contributes to its reporting and research on US policies and on both domestic and international food security. For 2024, the GFI helped provide funds to support Bread for the World’s Policy Research Institute that has been studying and monitoring what the World Food Program has labeled “Hunger Hot Spots”

More than 100 organizations sound the alarm to allow in life-saving aid to Gaza

Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP) joins 115 humanitarian and human rights organizations in sounding the alarm over the catastrophic starvation crisis in Gaza. As part of this joint statement, CMEP urges governments to take immediate and decisive action to end Israel’s siege, open all land crossings, restore the full flow of essential aid, and demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

Global Food Initiative grants aid food security and related work of church partners

The Church of the Brethren’s Global Food Initiative (GFI) has issued a recent round of grants supporting work for food security and related needs including $15,000 for purchase of farmland in Uganda, $6,470 for a well project in the Democratic Republic of Congo, $825 for a farming project of the emerging Tanzania Church of the Brethren, $5,000 in continued support for the Soybean Value Chain project of Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria, and $15,000 for the Wings of Blessing and Hope Farm Poultry Project of ASIGLEH, the Church of the Brethren in Venezuela.

Global Food Initiative supports agricultural projects and training in Nigeria, Ecuador, Venezuela, Uganda, United States

The Global Food Initiative (GFI) of the Church of the Brethren has given a number of grants in recent weeks, in order to support a Soybean Value Chain project in Nigeria, a church-based community gardening effort in Ecuador, a work-study opportunity in Ecuador for trainees from Venezuela, a vegetable production workshop in Uganda, and a community garden in North Carolina.

Brethren Faith in Action Fund aids six congregations and one camp

The Brethren Faith in Action Fund (BFIA) has aided six congregations and one camp with its latest round of grants. The fund provides grants using money generated by the sale of the upper campus of the Brethren Service Center in New Windsor, Md. Find out more at www.brethren.org/faith-in-action.

Latest Global Food Initiative grants go to the DRC, Rwanda, and Venezuela

The latest round of grants from the Global Food Initiative (GFI) have been given to ministries of Churches of the Brethren in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), for the Seed Projects; Rwanda, for purchase of a grain mill; and Venezuela, for agriculture micro-projects.
