Conference ‘Witness to Host City’ Will Be School Collection

The Annual Conference witness to the city of St. Louis, Mo., will involve the collection of school supplies for the St. Louis Public School system. During the 2012-13 school year, the St. Louis Public Schools will serve approximately 28,000 students in 72 different schools.

Moderator Makes Trip to Spain, Visits New Brethren Group

This year the moderator’s international trip was to visit with an emerging Brethren group in Spain.

Conference Officers Invite Ministry of Reconciliation to Broader Role

For over 20 years, moderators of the Church of the Brethren Annual Conference have invited the Ministry of Reconciliation (MoR) of On Earth Peace to provide observers during business sessions. This year the Annual Conference officers have invited MoR to expand its presence to include the entire Conference.

Annual Conference Ballot for 2012 Is Announced

The ballot has been announced for the 2012 Annual Conference of the Church of the Brethren, to take place in St. Louis, Mo., on July 7-11. The Nominating Committee of the Standing Committee of district delegates developed a slate of candidates, and the Standing Committee then voted to create the ballot that will be presented to the delegate body in July.

Annual CCT Meeting Has Anti-Racism, Anti-Poverty Focus

Christian Churches Together (CCT) completed its annual meeting Feb. 17 in Memphis, Tenn. Attending were 85 national church leaders from the organization’s five “faith families”: African-American, Catholic, Historic Protestant, Evangelical/Pentecostal, and Orthodox Christian. The group of men and women of many colors and ethnicities sought together to better understand and more effectively organize to combat racism and poverty in America.

New Schedule Announced for Ministers Event Led by Brueggemann

The Ministers’ Association has issued a new schedule for its pre-Conference two-day learning event featuring Walter Brueggemann, July 6-7 in St. Louis. Brueggemann, a renowned Old Testament scholar and author of over 50 books, will address the topic “Truth Speaks to Power” and the question, “How can the witness of the gospel be uttered and enacted in the midst of a public domain that now features immense concentrations of money, power, and control?”

Deacon Ministry Offers Pre-Conference Workshops

Two deacon training workshops will be held in St. Louis on Saturday, July 7, prior to the start of the 2012 Annual Conference. The workshops are sponsored by the Church of the Brethren Deacon Ministry, a part of Congregational Life Ministries. Both workshops will be held in the America’s Center convention center, Room 122.

Annual Conference Bits and Pieces

These highlights of special events and opportunities at the 2012 Annual Conference include a second annual Congregational Life Ministry Fair, pre- and post-Conference tours of Bethany Theological Seminary, “New Fire: Youth and Young Adults and the Ecumenical Movement” presentation at the Ecumenical Luncheon, a “Night at the Museum” for young adults and singles/night owls, and much, much more.
