Older adult FaithX participants had a wonderful week at Camp Ithiel in Gotha, Fla., where they spent time together in service, fellowship, and worship. A variety of volunteer projects were completed under the guidance of camp director Mike Neff, including removal of invasive plants, trimming of overgrown forest, kitchen help, cleaning, window washing, and painting.
Worship was full of deep conversation and singing led by devotion leader Carol Elmore. Participants especially enjoyed the times of joyful noise. After asking to sing a hymn in four-part harmony, one remarked, “I bet your youth FaithXers don’t request that very often!”
The week also included plenty of time for fellowship and recreation. At camp, participants laughed around the dinner table, completed puzzles, played games, and talked while relaxing in the front porch rocking chairs. A day trip away from camp brought the group to Silver Springs State Park for a boat ride to view birds, manatees, and other wildlife.
I led this trip as the FaithX staff coordinator and I look forward to next year’s older adult trip. Be on the lookout for details so that you can join us at Camp Ithiel in spring 2025!
