J. Michael Lausch has been appointed executive director of COBYS Family Services, a non-profit organization based in Lancaster County, Pa., that is related to the Church of the Brethren’s Atlantic Northeast District. COBYS is focused on providing for the physical safety of children, as well as the mental and emotional wellbeing of the children, adults, and families it serves.
Lausch comes to COBYS with decades of experience in education, including time spent in several Pennsylvania school districts. He taught elementary school in the Manheim Central School District, was an elementary school principal in the Lower Dauphin School District, and most recently was assistant superintendent and superintendent in the Donegal School District for nine and a half years. He began at COBYS on March 4.
Mark Cunningham retired from COBYS in Dec. 2023 after serving as executive director for the last 14 years of his 26-year tenure. During his tenure, COBYS expanded its family life education programs and trauma-informed counseling to provide wraparound services for those served by its foster care and adoption programs as well as the greater community.
