Atlantic Southeast District announces staff appointments

Atlantic Southeast District has called Michaela Alphonse to serve as temporary director of program, a part-time role she began this past February and will resume Aug. 1 after she completes a pastoral sabbatical. The district has called Larry O’Neill to serve as director of English ministries, a role he began on March 23.

The district staff also includes four other part-time director-level positions covering the areas of administration, Haitian ministries, Hispanic ministries, and finance.

Alphonse is participating in the Training in Ministry Program of the Brethren Academy for Ministerial Leadership. She is a member and licensed minister at Miami (Fla.) First Church of the Brethren. She holds educational degrees from Miami-Dade College and Florida International University. She has served as a member of the Church of the Brethren’s Compelling Vision Team, whose work was affirmed by the 2021 Annual Conference, and currently is a member of the denomination’s Mission and Ministry Board. She is a frequent presenter at denominational conferences and retreats.

O’Neill completed his ministry training preparation through the TRIM program of the Brethren Academy and was ordained in the Skippack congregation in Atlantic Northeast District, where he served as pastor. He holds educational degrees from Atlantic Community College and Texas Lutheran College and has training in Clinical Pastoral Education. He has been a chaplain at Souderton (Pa.) Mennonite Home (Living Branches, Inc.) prior to relocating to St. Cloud, Fla. He currently pastors New Covenant Church of the Brethren in Gotha, Fla., and is a volunteer chaplain for the sheriff’s office in Osceola County, Fla.
