Prayers welcomed for district executive searches

By Nancy Sollenberger Heishman

The Office of Ministry invites prayers for several Church of the Brethren districts searching for district executive minister leadership.

Western Pennsylvania District is seeking a half-time executive to guide and serve the 44 congregations and one fellowship that comprise their area. In their profile they eloquently expressed their desires for leadership with the following words: “As a district undergoing an identity crisis, we seek the support of a prayerful, intentional leader who will pursue Kingdom answers to our pressing questions. We need someone who is not afraid to step into an uncertain situation and cover it with wisdom and prayer. We are looking for a leader who will speak the truth in love, choose action over passivity; one who will seek the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. All other aspects of the job can be taught–but these qualities are foundational. If you are still reading this and you feel compelled to apply, we joyfully welcome you to do so.”

Mid-Atlantic District is actively preparing to announce their opening for a full-time executive to be assisted in their work by a team of regional volunteer representatives. The district currently comprises 59 churches across five states: Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Look for their announcement in a few weeks.

In addition, the search committee for Western Plains District, comprising congregations in Kansas, Colorado, and Nebraska, is preparing to conduct a district-wide survey in order to compile their district profile. Their opening will be for a half-time executive.

Given the changing nature of the church today, “innovative, adaptable, and fearless” leadership is urgently needed for the growth and vitality of the Church of the Brethren as expressed on the district level. Persons who sense a call to this level of leadership and have interest in a position are invited to contact the director of the Office of Ministry, Nancy Sollenberger Heishman, at officeofministry@brethren.org.
