Pauline Liu has resigned as the volunteer coordinator for Brethren Volunteer Service (BVS), a staff position working out of the Church of the Brethren General Offices in Elgin, Ill. She concluded her work with the Church of the Brethren on Feb. 2.
Liu worked on the BVS staff for almost three years, spanning most of the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. She contributed to the work to shift BVS orientations and placements to accommodate pandemic conditions, with some of those changes having been made permanent including changes in the placement process and increased monthly stipends for volunteers.
She began as orientation assistant for BVS on May 18, 2020, working remotely from her home in Colorado. In January 2021, she was promoted to the newly created position coordinating volunteers for BVS, which she had started on an interim basis the previous July.
Previously, she had been a BVS volunteer in Unit 319, serving from 2018 to 2019 at a L’Arche community in Kilkenny, Ireland.
