Grants from the Church of the Brethren’s Global Food Initiative (GFI) are supporting the attendance of three Church of the Brethren leaders at a symposium on sustainable agriculture and appropriate technologies in Tanzania, repair of a vehicle owned by the agriculture department of Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN, the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria), and Capstone 118’s outreach in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans.
Financial support for GFI grants is received at https://churchofthebrethren.givingfuel.com/gfi.
Tanzania
An allocation of up to $5,000 has been given to help support the attendance of three Church of the Brethren representatives from African countries at the ECHO East Africa Biennial Symposium on Sustainable Agriculture and Appropriate Technologies. The event takes place in Tanzania on Feb. 21-23. Those invited to attend are Athanasus Ungang of the Church of the Brethren mission staff in South Sudan; Expert Bukene, lead pastor of the Church of the Brethren in Burundi; and Sedrack Bwambale, lead pastor of the Church of the Brethren in Uganda.
Nigeria
Please pray… For the work supported by these grants from the Global Food Initiative.
A grant of $3,000 has gone to the agriculture department of EYN for vehicle repairs following an accident that happened while staff were driving to a recent thresher fabrication workshop. The grant to EYN’s Integrated Community Based Development Program (ICBDP) supports its Soybean Value-Chain work. While the vehicle is not used exclusively for the soybean project, maintenance and upkeep of this vehicle is important for reliable transportation to various agriculture projects.
New Orleans
A grant of $4,200 supports Capstone 118’s outreach in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans. The grant will help purchase replacement beehives and fruit trees, will help fund the restocking/rebuilding of some aquaculture demonstrations, and will cover fees for the director to attend a World Aquaculture Conference taking place in New Orleans. Total cost for these items is $8,015, with supplemental resources coming from the Church of the Brethre’s Southern Plains District and Capstone’s annual budget.
