FaithX concludes 2023 trips, announces new trips for adults and older adults in 2024

By Marissa Witkovsky-Eldred

This summer, nearly 175 participants ranging in age from 12 to 68 joined a FaithX service trip to explore a new place, live in community, grow in Christian discipleship, and act as the hands and feet of Christ in the world.

For 2024, FaithX is announcing three opportunities for adults and older adults, in addition to the usual range of summer trips.

FaithX is a ministry of the Church of the Brethren. Through FaithX, participants have the opportunity to grow in their personal walk with Christ, build relationships with other youth and adults in the denomination, and explore what ministry can look like outside of church walls. Junior high, senior high, and We Are Able participants served at 10 locations in the United States, providing assistance at shelters for the un-housed, clothing distribution centers, therapeutic horse-riding organizations, food pantries, Church of the Brethren summer camps, and more.

Adult participants journeyed to Gijon, Spain, to fellowship and worship with our Spanish siblings in the Church of the Brethren.

New opportunities planned for 2024

FaithX is announcing three opportunities for adults and older adults in 2024, in addition to the usual range of summer trips:

Older adults, age 55-plus, are invited to join a new short-term service opportunity during the winter of 2024. Step into the sunshine at Camp Ithiel in Gotha, Fla., for a week of volunteering, Bible study, and recreation. This exciting trip on Feb. 25-March 1 will be an opportunity for the older adult community to gather for fellowship and to serve one of our Church of the Brethren camps. Registration is now open at www.brethren.org/faithx.

An adult domestic trip for those 18 and older will occur in partnership with Brethren Disaster Ministries on July 28-Aug. 3. This trip will provide the best of both worlds–volunteering at a disaster rebuilding site and enjoying the programing of a FaithX trip. Registration will open on Jan. 10, 2024.

An adult international trip for those 18 and older will travel to Ecuador to serve at Fundacion Brethren y Unida (FBU) on June 1-10. FBU traces its beginnings to Church of the Brethren mission work in the 1970s. It specializes in agroecology, rural development, water resource management, and environmental education. Registration will open on Jan. 10, 2024.

Dates and locations for more summer 2024 FaithX service trips will be announced soon. We hope you will join us!
