Creation Justice Ministries offers resources, requests prayer

Helen Smith, Policy Advocate with Creation Justice Ministries, invites individuals and congregations to pray for Oak Flat, situated in the Tonto National Forest about an hour outside Phoenix, Ariz.  on March 19.

She writes, “Chi’chil Biłdagoteel, also known as Oak Flat, is in danger. Oak Flat is a sacred site for the Apache people, but the site is on the docket to be destroyed for copper mining. This sacred space is not only important to the Apache and other Indigenous communities but is an important desert ecosystem. The Apache need our help to protect this sacred site and God’s precious creations around it…. If copper mining was to move forward, underground water channels and major aquifers would be damaged or destroyed, in addition to a native year-round source of flowing water and deep well of aquifer water.”

Ecumenical Advocacy Days April 25-27, 2023

Ecumenical Advocacy Days to hold virtual conference

Ecumenical Advocacy Days, an annual gathering of Christian advocates and activists, will hold a virtual conference April 25-27, to worship, delve deeply into the pressing issues of the day, and speak truth to power on Capitol Hill.

The 2023 theme is “Swords into Plowshares: Achieving Enough for All & Pursuing Peace.”

According to the EAD website, “No one can serve two masters; we cannot excel in both war and justice, both wealth and mercy. We cannot take by force what is intended to be shared. Let us heed Christ’s call and gather as one body to discern how we can re-forge weapons of destruction into tools of growth, cultivate healing throughout God’s creation, and pursue systems that empower each person to thrive.”
