“Join us for this informational and instructive seminar!” said an invitation to the Clergy Tax Seminar 2024 sponsored by the Brethren Academy for Ministerial Leadership, the Church of the Brethren Office of Ministry, and Bethany Theological Seminary.
This online seminar is planned for Jan. 27, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Eastern time) for students, clergy, and anyone who deals with clergy finances. Participants will learn how to prepare clergy taxes correctly and legally and how to comply with regulations while maximizing tax deductions. Credentialed minister may earn 0.3 continuing education units for the first two sessions only.
The topic, “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Clergy Taxation,” will be covered in Part 1, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (0.15 CEUs), and Part 2, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. (0.15 CEUs). Part 3, from 3 to 4 p.m., will cover the topic, “Completing the Clergy Tax Return.”
Leadership is provided by Deb Oskin, who has been doing clergy tax returns since 1989, as a pastor’s wife and later as a tax professional for 12 years with H&R Block and following that in her own tax practice specializing in clergy taxes. Now an ordained minister herself, she chairs the Pastoral Compensation and Benefits Advisory Committee of the Annual Conference of the Church of the Brethren.
The registration deadline is Jan. 19, 2024. Registration costs $40 per person. Current students of the Brethren Academy, Bethany Seminary, and Earlham School of Religion may attend at no cost, although registration is still required. Instructions and handouts will be sent a few days prior to the event. Registrations are not complete until payment is received. For quality reasons, registrations may be capped at 85 people. Prompt registration is advised. A Zoom link will be sent prior to the seminar.
