LaDonna Sanders Nkosi has resigned as director of Intercultural Ministries for the Church of the Brethren, and as staff of Discipleship Ministries, effective Dec. 31. She has served in the position for three years, since Jan. 16, 2020.
Concurrently, Sanders Nkosi is the planting pastor of the Gathering Chicago, a community of prayer and global/local service based in Hyde Park, Chicago. The Gathering Chicago is a new ministry plant in the Illinois/Wisconsin District.
Her innovative work for Intercultural Ministries, mostly carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic, included a number of initiatives to promote prayer as well as healing racism and racial justice projects. She offered a Healing Racism Mini-grant program for congregations actively working on healing racism in their communities. A series of webinars on “Healing Racism Congregations and Communities” as well as an online Global Check-in and Prayer Series and other online conversations offered education as well as opportunities to join in prayer. She was a guest speaker at various venues across the Church of the Brethren. Most recently, she has served on the Standing with People of Color Committee of Annual Conference.
Sanders Nkosi’s future plans include global travel, completing her doctoral thesis and graduating as a Wright Scholar from McCormick Theological Seminary, leading Global Ventures and Healing Racism initiatives for Ubuntu Global Village Communications, and doing consulting with various organizations, among others.
