Hollidaysburg Church hosts Shane Claiborne for Peace Day events

A release from the Mission and Evangelism Team at Hollidaysburg Church

Hollidaysburg (Pa.) Church of the Brethren will host Shane Claiborne–a prominent speaker, peace activist, and best-selling author from the Simple Way in Philadelphia–for a day of celebrating peace on Sunday, Sept. 11.

We invite you to join us for a day to celebrate peace. As members of the Church of the Brethren, we treasure the gift of pacifism that has been passed down for generations. We set aside this day to uplift prayers for ourselves, our community, our nation, and our world in order to live in peacefulness. Please join us!

Feel free to join in worship at 9:30 a.m., followed by Sunday school and a simple lunch, and an outdoor event at 1-3 p.m. featuring music, readings, prayers, children’s activities, and a demonstration by Claiborne using his forge.

Claiborne worked with Mother Teresa in Calcutta, India, and founded the Simple Way in Philadelphia. He heads up Red Letter Christians, a movement of people who are committed to living “as if Jesus meant the things he said.” He is a champion for grace, which has led him to jail while advocating for the homeless, and to places like Iraq and Afghanistan to stand against war. Now grace fuels his passion to end the death penalty and help stop gun violence.
