Children’s Disaster Services offers volunteer training workshops in October

Children’s Disaster Services (CDS) has three volunteer training workshops coming up, for which we are taking registrations:

Oct. 14-15 at Eel River Church of the Brethren, 2507 State Road 14, Silver Lake, IN 46982

Oct. 21-22 at the Fruit and Flower Child Care Center, 2378 NW Irving, Portland, OR 97210

Oct. 28-29 at Trinity Church UMC/UCC, 900 E. Decatur Street, West Point, NE 68788

The training workshops typically include a simulated shelter experience (an overnight stay) for adults interested in working with children after a disaster. Participants completing the course will have the opportunity to become certified Children’s Disaster Services volunteers. However, many others who work with children may benefit from the concepts taught in the workshops.

More information and registration are online at www.brethren.org/cds/training/dates. A paper registration form can be printed from the website and mailed to the CDS office in New Windsor, Md., for those who prefer not to register online.

Anyone age 18 and over is welcome to attend the training. The early bird registration rate of $55 still applies for another week. For questions or more information, contact cds@brethren.org or 800-451-4407 option 4.
