Kelsey Murray of Lancaster (Pa.) Church of the Brethren will serve as coordinator for the 2018 National Youth Conference (NYC). Murray is a 2014 graduate of Bridgewater (Va.) College, where she studied art with concentrations in ceramics, graphic design, and photography. As NYC coordinator, she will provide vision and leadership for the event, which she will plan with the National Youth Cabinet.

Murray will have major administrative responsibilities for NYC, working on everything from coordinating volunteer staff to managing registration.

“My experience on the 2010 National Youth Cabinet sparked my interest in ministry and jump started my leadership in various capacities in the Church of the Brethren,” she says. “NYC is a transformative week for youth to walk with Christ, share their struggles, meet other youth like them and grow. NYC can be a ‘mountain top’ that helps youth see the influence that their faith can have in their daily lives.”

In addition to experience on the National Youth Cabinet, Murray’s previous leadership roles include being part of the Atlantic Northeast District Youth Cabinet, the Interdistrict Youth Cabinet and the Brethren Student Movement Leadership Team (at Bridgewater College), and the Church of the Brethren Young Adult Steering Committee. After college, Murray served as interim director of youth ministry at Lancaster Church of the Brethren.

“Being a leader in the church means showing members of the body of Christ that they are not alone and supporting them through the valleys and mountaintops that life brings. It also means leading by example and showing the church what it means to be a servant of God with a loving heart.”

Murray and the National Youth Cabinet will meet for the first time in February to discern the theme scripture and basic structure for the event. NYC 2018 will be held July 21-26, 2018, on the campus of Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo. All high school-aged youth (including those who are one year post-high school) and their advisors are invited to attend. Registration will begin in January 2018.
