(June 11, 2007) — Children’s Disaster Services (formerly Disaster Child Care) has a chapter in a new book by author Roberta R. Owens, of the Legacy of Caring organization. The book is titled “Faith in Children: Stories from Faith-Based Children’s Centers.” Children’s Disaster Services is a ministry of the Church of the Brethren General Board.
The coordinator of Children’s Disaster Services, Helen Stonesifer, facilitated finding an author for the chapter, according to a report from Roy Winter, director of Brethren Disaster Ministries.
The 264-page book is published by Providence House Publishers in April this year. Legacy of Caring will use profits from the sale of the book to publish future volumes in a “Faith in Children” series and to provide grants to faith-based early care and education programs for innovative projects.
Legacy of Caring has launched a “100 for 500″ fundraising campaign in hopes of presenting 500 of the books to programs and individuals at low or no cost, Winter reported. The organization has begun delivering 100 complementary copies of “Faith in Children” to organizations, businesses, and individuals, asking them to “re-gift” the book to a preschool, director, teacher, or faith community and also to make a charitable donation to Legacy of Caring to help the presentation of more books to programs and people who may not otherwise acquire them. The organization’s goal is to raise $15,000 for this purpose.
