An email was sent out from Amazon to all their customers who have participated in the AmazonSmile program. This program was launched in 2013 to make it easier for customers to support their favorite charities. However, the email stated, after almost a decade, the program has not grown to create the impact that they had originally hoped. With so many eligible organizations (more thank 1 million globally) their ability to have an impact was often spread too thin.
The program was officially discontinued at end of day on Monday, February 20th. Amazon will send any contributions that were accrued through the program closure date, as well as providing a one-time donation to the organization that will be the equivalent to three months of what they earned in 2022 through the program.
We would like to take this opportunity to say “thank you” to those of you who selected our organization when using this program over the past (almost) 9 years.
