District Mission Advocates’ Toolkit

  • Get to know where to find resources on Church of the Brethren missions. Visit www.brethren.org/global and search that area of the website. Learn where to sign up for things so that you can help people in your district find information.
  • Send a letter or email or make a phone call to each church in your district informing them of the network and asking them to pray about selecting a mission advocate. View a sample letter here.
  • Write and submit an article for your district’s newsletter asking congregations to select a mission advocate. See a sample article here .
  • Request 10-15 minutes at your district conference for an update to the conference on Church of the Brethren missions. Show a video to the delegate body.
  • Include a sample email prayer update (scroll down for links) in each delegate packet at district conference.
  • Organize a district meal event featuring international fare and entertainment. Present information during or after the meal.
  • Create a station at district conference where people can write letters of support to mission workers and our global partners.
  • Organize a district worship featuring the language, traditions, and songs of a Church of the Brethren mission point.
  • Gather stories of district congregations’ involvement in mission and share the stories with the broader network through the Global Mission and Service office.
  • Encourage people in your district to consider service through FaithX, Brethren Volunteer Service, Brethren Disaster Ministries, Children’s Disaster Services, or a life as a mission worker.
  • Make your district aware that you are a point person for resources about Church of the Brethren mission!

Congregational Mission Advocates’ Toolkit

  • Get to know where to find resources on Church of the Brethren missions. Visit www.brethren.org/global and search that area of the website. Learn where to sign up for things so that you can help people in your congregation find information.
  • Print copies of the missions prayer update and insert into bulletins.
  • Share the global Church of the Brethren communion map. Invite prayer for our global family.
  • Keep before your congregation current mission funding possibilities. Ask people to give financially to Church of the Brethren missions.
  • Talk to Sunday school classes about Church of the Brethren mission! Use videos or photos to explain what the international Church of the Brethren looks like. Focus on one country each time.
  • Print copies of the weekly prayer guide (the most recent are linked at www.brethren.org/global) and leave on a resource table for people to take. Include a sign-up sheet for people interested in receiving an electronic copy and a small sign listing www.brethren.org/intouch so that people can sign up directly using their phones.
  • Organize a special worship featuring the language, traditions, and songs of a Church of the Brethren mission point.
  • Organize a meal event at your church featuring international fare and entertainment. Present information during or after the meal.
  • Make your congregation aware that you are a point person for resources from and opportunities available with Church of the Brethren mission!
