What is FaithX?
FaithX is a short-term service program through Brethren Volunteer Service that offers weeklong service trips domestically and internationally for youth, young adults, and adults in the Church of the Brethren.
FaithX stands for Faith Outreach Expeditions – “Faith” expresses that these experiences are a place for theological exploration, discernment, and spiritual growth. “Outreach” speaks to the experience of becoming the hands and feet of Christ to the world. “Expeditions” emphasizes the sense of adventure and fun that we hope all participants experience while serving.
Through FaithX, participants have the opportunity to serve in a variety of ministry and non-profit settings, live and worship in community, and explore a new place. During FaithX, participants build relationships of mutual learning and understanding with the communities and individuals that they serve, and grow in Christian discipleship, formed by the command to love God and neighbor.
These trips are an opportunity for personal spiritual growth, building relationships with other youth or adults in the denomination, and exploring what ministry can look like outside of church walls. Additionally, by traveling to new places, being exposed to new experiences and ways of life, and getting out of our comfort zones in a variety of settings, participants are often given a new perspective and worldview.
While FaithX seeks to make a difference in the lives of others, we know that we are equally benefitted by the difference others make in our lives during these rewarding experiences of service.

Brethren Volunteer Service (BVS) is a full-time volunteer program that seeks to advocate justice, work for peace, serve human need, and care for creation. BVS places adult volunteers at projects within the United States or abroad to serve for a year or more. As a BVSer, volunteers have the opportunity to make a positive impact in communities around the globe and the ability to gain real-world experience that develops professional and relational skills.
BVS seeks volunteers that hope to make a difference while gaining practical professional experience, meeting new people, learning about different cultures, and experiencing personal growth. BVSers receive room, board, medical insurance, transportation to their project, a monthly stipend, and money allocated for food.
