The church parking lot was transformed into a beehive of activity and celebration of cultures. A few hundred people attended, many lingering for much of the three hours as they participated in activities, sampled food, and got their passports stamped at table displays representing various countries. Kids who visited all tables won a goody bag of prizes.

International cuisine included a kid-friendly British tea party (beginning with a prayer for the queen), Ethiopian food prepared by the Light of the World congregation that shares our building, German gingerbread cookies for children to decorate and devour, fried Nigerian chin-chin cookies, other snacks, and free hot dogs for lunch.

Around the edges, kids enjoyed the bounce house, bike course with obstacles built by Troy Nace, and other games, and our own Jerry Brown and his capuchin monkey Django captivated kids and adults.

“It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying themselves,” said Pastor Misty Wintsch, who worked with Karen Graeff and Dee Zimmerman to plan the event. A couple dozen additional volunteers pitched in to greet, set up and tear down, run activities, staff tables, serve food, and more. “We were so grateful for all the people who made the day a tremendous success,” added Misty.

A central purpose of the day was to create opportunities to get to know our neighbors; at least one couple who attended on Saturday accepted the invitation to worship with us on Sunday.

A photographer from LNP/Lancaster Online joined the fun and ran a collage of photos in the Sunday paper, along with more photos online.
