{"id":4382,"date":"2015-08-17T09:15:00","date_gmt":"2015-08-17T14:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.brethren.org\/?p=4382"},"modified":"2015-08-17T09:15:00","modified_gmt":"2015-08-17T14:15:00","slug":"thinking-about-ferguson-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/blogtest\/2015\/08\/17\/thinking-about-ferguson-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Thinking About Ferguson \u2013 Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<em>This is not a one year old problem \u2013Efrem Smith<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A year ago, I had never heard of Ferguson \u2013 despite having traveled to Missouri several times, and despite loving a sci-fi show set in St. Louis. Or if I heard of it, it didn\u2019t register. Not the way it does now.<\/p>\n<p>Now I cannot hear \u201cFerguson\u201d without flinching.<\/p>\n<p>As we approached the first \u201canniversary\u201d of the shooting of Michael Brown, I found myself reflecting on what had happened in the past year. I have been completely overwhelmed and saddened by the long list of unarmed African Americans who have been killed. I have been inspired by the national conversation this awareness has sparked. I have been afraid that nothing is going to change.<\/p>\n<p>I had a feeling of d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu when I heard there were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-33858353\">protests in Ferguson<\/a> \u2013 again. Of course, I expected something to happen but I was not prepared for more violence and another state of emergency. I was not expecting me to be looking away from the news with tears in my eyes and too discouraged to find solace in prayer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/blogtest\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2015\/08\/EFREM-44-DSC_0192.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-4386 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/EFREM-44-DSC_0192-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"EFREM 44 DSC_0192\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nEfrem Smith, a pastor at the Covenant Church who spoke at the 2014 Church Planting Conference, has written eloquently on it.
