Omaha Tours

Excursion to the Durham Museum

Located in the historic Union Station, the Durham Museum offers exhibits exploring history and culture, science and industry, and more. Permanent exhibits trace the history of the region from when the land was occupied by the Omaha Indian tribe through the periods of westward expansion and agricultural and industrial development that gave shape to the Omaha of today. The Bishop Clarkson Community Gallery specifically explores the tradition of community. Within this gallery an exhibit called “Conflict Brings Change” highlights the ways in which the sense of community has been challenged, including a focus on the lynching of Will Brown and Omaha’s Red Summer of 1919, as well as reflections from African-American leaders on where the city has changed and where continued efforts need to be made. Visitors can also enjoy some ice cream at Union Station’s original soda fountain. More information about the museum can be found at: www.durhammuseum.org.

Tour of the Tri-Faith Commons

The only place of its kind in the world, the Tri-Faith Commons brings together the Temple Israel Jewish synagogue, Countryside Community Church (a United Church of Christ congregation), the American Muslim Institute, and an interfaith center, providing a national model and center for interfaith learning, collaboration, and celebration. A guided tour will focus on the interfaith center and Abraham’s Bridge. The bridge connects the four buildings, stands as an inspirational focal point on the Commons, and serves as a catalyst for relationship-building between congregations as groups meet weekly to walk and talk with one another. The tour will also explore virtual highlights of each congregation’s building on campus and share Tri-Faith’s founding story. More information about the Tri-Faith Commons can be found at www.trifaith.org.
