One delegate and one alternate, 7-year term
7-year term as representative of the Church of the Brethren to the World Council of Churches, including serving as delegate at the World Council of Churches Assembly, which takes place once every 6-8 years. The last Assembly was held in 2013.
Number of members:
The Church of the Brethren has two official representatives to the World Council of Churches. Current polity calls for one representative to be elected by Standing Committee and the other to be appointed by the Mission and Ministry Board.
Procedure:
The Nominating Committee of Standing Committee obtains nominations to present a ballot to Standing Committee, which votes to select the delegate and the alternate. The results are reported to Annual Conference.
Term and schedule:
The delegate and alternate are selected about midpoint between successive Assemblies to have opportunity to join in preparing for the Assembly at which the delegate will serve as an official representative of the Church of the Brethren. The term for the representative selected in 2017 will begin January 1, 2018 and conclude December 31, 2024.
Expenses:
Expenses are paid for participating in the World Council of Churches Assembly.
