The Emanuel Children's Home (Hogar de Niños Emanuel) needs Volunteer(s) to assist in the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of abused, disadvantaged, and homeless children ranging in age from infant to eighteen years of age. This home currently has approximately seventy children with an expected increase in population. Duties would include providing a Christian role model for the children while helping with all day-to-day activities, special outings, education, extra-curricular activities and disciplinary procedures. Volunteer(s) would also work as a liaison between the home and the sponsorship program in the United States, as well as help coordinate projects for incoming work groups. Requirements: A strong Christian commitment, love of children, fluency in Spanish, and computer skills are all essential to this position. Along with single applicants, a married couple may apply also. If applicant(s) have special skills to share with the children, he/she/they are welcome to discuss their abilities and desires with the on-site director of the home. Applicants MUST be extremely flexible in their daily routines in order to adapt to the needs/schedules of the children.

AmeriCorps logoCasa de Esperanza de los Niños - The House of Hope for Children - seeks a Child Care Volunteer or Foster parent Volunteer. Casa is a safe place for children in crisis due to abuse, neglect or HIV/AIDS. Casa provides residential, medical and psychological care to meet the individual needs of each child. Children are cared for in homes with six or fewer children per house. Duties include: feeding babies, planning and cooking meals, bathing the children, getting them dressed, giving oral medications, taking children to doctor appointments, transporting children to school, grocery shopping, picking up medications at the pharmacy, managing behavior and providing safe boundaries. More than anything else, volunteers will be asked to give these children their time, attention, patience and love. Requirements: Must be 21 years of age, have a clear criminal history, high school diploma or G.E.D. Foster Parent Volunteer Couples should be at least 25 years of age and have been married for more than two years. Volunteers must also be able to lift and carry small children, willing to live simply, work hard and help create a supportive and cohesive team with other staff members and Foster Parents in the houses. Other characteristics that are needed are flexibility, patience, a positive attitude, a love for children, and an ability to communicate appropriately with supervisors, volunteers, other staff, and housemates.

Quaker Service
seeks Voluntary Staff to live and work at Quaker Cottage, a cross-community family support center situated on the side of Black Mountain, overlooking West Belfast. Quaker Cottage is a very special day center that provides care and support for disadvantaged families referred by social services. Typically the families have experienced some form of trauma in their lives or have difficulty coping with day to day living. All live in areas most affected by the conflict in Northern Ireland. Quaker Cottage aims to provide a safe and caring environment where increased self esteem, greater family understanding and cooperation, improved social and life skills, enhanced development and mutual understanding and respect are actively promoted. Volunteers will principally be involved in working with children, from 0-18 years old, using a very individualized and effective model of child care. All of these children come from areas which have experienced a high level of violence and much of the behavior that they display is negative. An attitude of tolerance and understanding is imperative. The working week is Monday to Friday and may include some early evening work. Other tasks include cooking, cleaning and minibus driving. Volunteering at Quaker Cottage can prove incredibly rewarding  but it can also be physically and emotionally difficult. Requirements: Commitment to giving 100% to the children. Experience with children is helpful, love for them is essential. You should also be experienced driving a minibus with stick shift or at least willing to learn! One week in six you will be expected to prepare a meal for 10 adults and 12 children. Volunteers are provided with purpose-built accommodation and transport.

Hope House, Inc. is a youth residential center for Kansas girls aged 10-18. It is a place where youth who have not been successful at the foster home level will reside. Girls will attend school locally, be involved in church and school activities and gardening in the summer. Duties include planning and assisting youth to prepare meals, transporting children to school and appointments, being a “teaching parent”, managing behavior and providing safe boundries. Requirements: Must be at least 21 years old, have a high school diploma and have a clean criminal history. Volunteers will be expected to learn a leveled behavior plan and use the plan to manage behaviors. Must be flexible, be able to have positive relationship with supervisors and other workers, be a postitive influence on the youth and act as liaison between Hope House and community. Housing is provided in a studio apartment in the basement of Hope House.

121. Hutchinson, Kansas
Hadley Day Care needs Assistant Teachers to work with children, ages two through 13 years. Duties include assisting the unit teacher in general supervision and unit management; directing indoor and outdoor play; helping to train basic self-help skills; becoming acquainted with each child’s family; attending staff meetings; and helping with housekeeping duties. Other duties include attending training courses; undergoing a KBI check (on site); obtaining a TB test (on site) and others that may come up on an irregular basis. Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent; love for and ability to work with children; personal emotional maturity; and a strong work ethic. Work schedule would be eight hour days/40 hours each week. Must be able to speak distinctly, stoop, bend, squat, kneel and lift, in caring for the children.

Children usually enter the Boys Hope Girls Hope program between the ages of 10-14 and stay in our home until high school graduation. AmeriCorps logoThe Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Need has served clients in need in Frederick County since 1981. We have become the largest provider of emergency financial assistance in Frederick County. The Coalition is a faith based social service agency that includes a network of 90 churches. The Religious Coalition serves over 850 families per month through a network of seven food banks. The Coalition operates the largest homeless shelter and only emergency shelter in Frederick County. Two staff positions exist - The Ministry Coordinator and the Volunteer Coordinator both based at the Religious Coalition office. The Ministry Coordinator assists walk-in clients and those calling with emergency needs, maintains a client data base of services as well as assist in bookkeeping responsibilities at the office. The Volunteer Coordinator works with part-time volunteers at the office and at the new Day Shelter program for the homeless, coordinates the work of local food banks including food drives for the poor and assist in staffing a day shelter for the homeless, and works with churches in recruiting volunteers. Requirements: Good computer skills, committed to their faith and reaching out to their neighbor in need, good communication skills, experience in finance or bookkeeping is helpful, experience in managing volunteers or working in a social service program is helpful.

We have several opportunities for year-long volunteers to join our staff in providing quality health care to people who otherwise would be forced to do without. Patients at Christ House are too sick to be on the streets or in a shelter, but are unable to access extended hospital care. While at Christ House, they receive treatment for a variety of medical conditions including trauma wounds, (gunshots, stabbings, etc), chronic illness (cancer, AIDS, etc), and many other on-going issues (frostbite, tuberculosis, diabetes, etc). Most patients have a dual diagnosis and are experiencing unusual complications. Patients stay at Christ House for as long as they have a medical need, the average length of stay is 47 days. BVS/Global Mission in Brazil seeks one or two Volunteers to help with community outreach programs of the congregations in either the Campinas (Sao Paulo) area, or the city of Rio Verde, Goias state. These outreach programs currently focus on children's programs of educational support, such as tutoring and educational enrichment activities, and programs of Christian education linked directly to the congregational ministry. These outreaches respond to stated needs of the communities as well as the church membership. Active participation in the congregation would be expected. Both assignments would be supervised on day-to-day basis by local pastors and/or the National Directors, Marcos and Suely Inhauser, depending on location. This is an emerging ministry in which the candidates will help shape the position direction in consultation with church leaders and community voices. While there may be value in initial housing together for support and cultural entry, a decision has not yet been made whether a second worker might be assigned to a separate location after six months or so. Duties include researching information and existing resources about the topics, developing new resources for pastors, deacons, other caregivers and congregations to minister to persons dealing with domestic violence and child abuse, and creating workshops and other training materials related to those areas. 2025. Neuwied, Germany
EIRENE International Christian Service for Peace, an ecumenical volunteer and development agency, providing an alternative to the obligatory military service in Germany, seeks a Volunteer for the North and East Program. Around 50 volunteers are sent annually as part of EIRENE's North and East programs to do voluntary service on projects promoting nonviolence, justice, inter-religious dialogue and environmental concerns in Northern Ireland, Ireland, France, Belguim, USA, Canada, Romania and Bosnia-Herzegovina. This office volunteer will be responsible for volunteer accompaniment and adminstrative tasks in the North and East Program such as: processing inquiries, distribution of volunteers' newsletters, address administration, preparation of financial transfers, helping organize the five different kinds of EIRENE seminars for volunteers before, during and after their terms of service, helping to host guests and other tasks as needed in the EIRENE headquarters, and participation in various EIRENE meetings and commissions. Requirements: Previous experience in or at least openness to the ecumenical movement, background in the voluntary service sector helpful, outgoing personality, ability to multi-task, good knowledge of German or willingness to improve at start of term, computer skills (word processing, data base, internet), office/administration knowledge/experience, previous group work or pedagogical experience helpful.

2026. Harrisonburg, Virginia
Valley Brethren-Mennonite Heritage Center, located on a 12-acre hilltop location overlooking the Shenandoah Valley, needs a Maintenance Coordinator to keep the grounds and buildings in good shape. The person will interact with volunteers and with the public. The Valley was the site of the only Brethren-Mennonite community in the Confederacy during the Civil War, and the two groups helped each other oppose slavery and war and survive the burning of the Valley by the Union Army. The Heritage Center includes three historic buildings, with more to come, and a modern Welcome Center. The center is open to the public, Wednesday-Saturday 10:00-5:00. Requirements: Skills and experience in maintenance and groundskeeping, high school diploma, good physical condition.
