Winamac, Indiana - flood recovery
In the winter of 2008 a storm system with heavy rains flooded many communities along the Tippecanoe River in northern Indiana. The devastating effects of the floods left many homes damaged or destroyed. While over 1,300 households in the region applied for FEMA assistance, many families did not receive enough assistance to fully recover and return home. The local disaster recovery agency has called upon Brethren Disaster Ministries to help with the needed reconstruction. Read more

Hammond, Indiana - flood recovery
Since mid-July 2009, Brethren Disaster Ministries volunteers have been hard at work at a flood recovery project in northwestern Indiana, based in Hammond. Read more
Chalmette, Louisiana - Hurricane Katrina recovery
We're still chipping away at the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina nearly four years ago. Chalmette is in St. Bernard Parish, where this mega-disaster caused the levee failures that inundated homes throughout the parish with 6-20 feet of water. Over 200 parish residents lost their lives, and 100% percent of the homes were officially declared "uninhabitable." Read more
