A Church Leadership / Pastor's Conference took place at the EYN Conference Center last week. There had been a ZME Women's conference the previous week ... A new church has been started at EYN Headquarters.

We have had much time for reflection lately—with farewell parties, goodbyes, and graduations—and feel content at the progress that has been made since we arrived in 2009....We leave thankful that we can see fruit of our labors and the labors of our colleagues.

After numerous speaking engagements this summer, we arrived back in Nigeria August 2nd. The Kulp Bible College semester officially resumes on August 22nd, and the Peace Club is beginning to plan events. A new EYN church administration was inaugurated.

Election Violence
Nigerian Presidential elections occurred on Saturday and there has been violence Sunday and Monday. Supporters of one party are angry that their candidate did not win. Rioting has occurred in Mubi (30 minutes drive South) and Michika (40 minutes drive North), along with other main cities in Northern Nigeria.

Starting classes, teaching classes, coordinating interfaith planning meetings, planning a peace and democracy conference, preparing a house for a new COB staff volunteer, travelling to meet the staff volunteer at the Yola airport, talking with imams and pastors about an intergroup dialogue, translating English peace resources into Hausa: the past two months have been busy! At first, we delayed our newsletter because we were waiting for some actual news to update on.

On December 10, 2010, the EYN Peace Programme ? the peacebuilding organization of Ekklesiyar Yan?uwa a Nigeria, or the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria ? celebrated the grand opening of its Peace Office and Peace Resource Library. The EYN Peace Office was designed to serve as the center for EYN Peace Programme?s work, providing working space and meeting space.

The month of November flew by, with classes and conferences and a lot of work for peace! KBC final exams started December 1st and finished on December 4th. The KBC school year has come to a close for 2010 (the academic year runs January-December) and 20 students in the Certificate in Christian Ministry class will graduate on December 10th. Though we arrived about a month into the start of the semester (mid-October), we were able to get in a fair amount of teaching.

After months of uncertainty, our long wait ended and we began to move. We moved by car from Lancaster County, PA to Philadelphia, stopping for a few hours to see Nate?s brother. We moved out of Philadelphia and on to Frankfurt, Germany. Following a layover in Germany, we continued on to Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.
