DESIGN A POSTER CAMPAIGN

One effective way to bring awareness to issues is through posters and leaflets. Think about the bumper stickers you have seen. What about the design or message caught your attention?

Or think about the classic billboard and poster protest done by John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1969 during the Viet Nam war. Lennon and Ono took out large ads around New York and other large cities that said, "WAR IS OVER (If you want it.) Happy Christmas! John and Yoko."

Billboards and posters are also used to bring attention to issues such as tobacco related deaths, pregnancy, and one's salvation.

There are three primary concerns when conducting a poster or leaflet campaign. First, the design of the leaflet or poster is important. What is the purpose of the poster or leaflet? A call to action? Information? Is the poster or leaflet eye-catching? Is it appealing to look at? Does it grab the attention of the target audience?

The second primary concern is wording. Statements should be easy to read. Posters and leaflets that are too wordy will not be looked at by the audience.

Finally, distribution of the posters or leaflets is crucial. Is there a time line? Is there a target audience? How and when will the posters and leaflets be distributed?
