Begin now to make plans for a public prayer event in your community on or around September 21, 2008.

  • Focus on the most central issues of violence and injustice that face your community.
  • Develop a strategy to invite people of many backgrounds together for a day of celebration, prayer, and alternative visions.

There are three phases in this effort: Before Sept 21; Sept 21 (day of); and After Sept 21.

    BEFORE:
Build NEW or DEEPER relationships with people in your community and gather info about what violence is impacting your neighborhoods (unemployment? drug abuse? racism? domestic violence?  militarization of youth?  war?)
ON SEPT 21: Hold a public prayer event including these new friends & partners, focusing on the kinds of violence you uncovered in your information-gathering, asking God for assistance, help, inspiration.
AFTER: Building on these new relationships, keep a magnifying glass on one or more of the forms of violence you identified.  Help catalyze continued efforts to address them.

  • Please consider a contribution of $25-250 depending on the size and financial means of your congregation or group – and recognize that money should not stand in the way of your participation.
  • Donate now! And make sure to designate your gift as IDOPP.
