Sixth Brethren World Assembly examines ‘Crosscurrents’ of Brethren movement (August 24, 2018)

The Sixth Brethren World Assembly happened Aug. 9-12 at Winona Lake (Ind.) Grace Brethren Church. It was sponsored by the Brethren Encyclopedia Foundation with the theme “Brethren Intersections: History, Identity, Crosscurrents.” The event, held every five years, gathers Brethren from various denominations tracing back to the original 1708 group in Germany. Foods Resource Bank announces new name, leadership (August 24, 2018)

FRB announced that a new name, Growing Hope Worldwide, will go into effect Oct. 1. The new name emphasizes the organization's goal to “plant seeds of hope for generations to come.” Max Finberg will be the new president/CEO. Read more »

Elizabethtown requests Atlantic Northeast District withdraw "Same-Gender Marriage" proposal  (August 23, 2018)

The Elizabethtown (Pa.) Church of the Brethren board has responded to the passage of “Policy on Same-Gender Marriage” by the Atlantic Northeast District board, “respectfully requesting” the board to withdraw the item from consideration at this year’s district conference. Read more »

EYN national youth group leader observes National Youth Conference (August 1, 2018)

Elisha Shavah attended National Youth Conference in Fort Collins, Colo., as an international guest and an observer from Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN, the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria). Back home he is an accountant by profession at a private company specializing in irrigation and hydropower. He also is national chairman of Kungiyan Bishara EYN, which translates to the “Gospel Team” of the church in Nigeria, part of the work of EYN’s national youth ministry. Read more »


Prince of Peace hears first-hand experience of Manzanar (August 1, 2018)

All they could take was one suitcase and what they could wear. That is what President Roosevelt’s Executive Order 9066 told Japanese and Japanese-Americans who were living on the west coast after the attack on Pearl Harbor, in 1942. They reported to relocation camps with only one week’s notice. Read more »
