Ecumenical Stewardship Center offers helpful guide to implement online giving (March 28, 2020)

EDF grant continues Nigeria Crisis Response funding (March 28, 2020)

The staff at Brethren Disaster Ministries have requested an additional allocation of $300,000 from the Emergency Disaster Fund (EDF) to cover remaining program expenses for the Nigeria Crisis Response program for 2020 and to carry the response through March 2021. Read more »


EDF grants respond to COVID-19 pandemic in Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo (March 28, 2020)

The staff at Brethren Disaster Ministries have directed grants from the Church of the Brethren’s Emergency Disaster Fund (EDF) to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in two countries in central Africa: Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Read more »


Brethren Disaster Ministries extends suspension of its rebuilding sites (March 28, 2020)

Brethren Disaster Ministries has announced an extended suspension of its rebuilding sites. This will temporarily move the reopening date of the Carolinas site to May 3 and the Puerto Rico site to April 25, extending the current suspension for two additional weeks. Read more »

Ministry Office collects resources for love feast and Easter virtual worship services (March 27, 2020)

Church World Service closes kit depots, affects Material Resources ministry (March 25, 2020)

A decision by the Church World Service (CWS) leadership team to close all of the kit depots in local congregations through May 31 will affect the Church of the Brethren’s Material Resources ministry based at the Brethren Service Center in New Windsor, Md. The Material Resources warehouse facility receives, processes, and distributes CWS disaster relief kits. Read more »


Lockdown already ended for church workers in China (March 20, 2020)

Eric Miller reports that the lockdown at his home in Pingding, China, has ended. Miller and his wife, Ruoxia Li, have returned to work in the offices of their local partner, You’ai Hospital. They spent about a month at home with only two trips to the grocery store for supplies. Read more »


Denominational facilities are closed to visitors, most staff to work from home (March 20, 2020)

The Church of the Brethren denominational staff are working to minimize the number of personnel present at both the General Offices in Elgin, Ill., and the Brethren Service Center in New Windsor, Md., in light of health authorities’ advice to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19. BVS continuing to support volunteers through COVID-19 crisis (March 20, 2020)

Brethren Volunteer Service (BVS) has been working with its project partners and volunteers around the world to encourage caution and safety during this COVID-19 crisis. Its mid-year retreat for domestic volunteers that was scheduled for March 23-27 has been cancelled and, instead, volunteers will gather virtually for a day of retreat activities and reflecting. The workcamp team is continuing to plan workcamps as scheduled and it is our hope that we will be able to gather in service and fellowship this summer! New and Renew conference is canceled for 2020, postponed until 2021 (March 19, 2020)

After prayerful discernment over the ongoing health concerns and the safety of people due to the coronavirus, the New Church Advisory Committee and Discipleship Ministries of the Church of the Brethren are canceling the New and Renew Conference scheduled for May 13-15, 2020. The event was to be held at the Church of the Brethren General Offices in Elgin, Ill. Read more »

Brethren Disaster Ministries temporarily suspends volunteer travel to rebuilding sites, Children’s Disaster Services postpones spring training workshops (March 13, 2020)

Brethren Disaster Ministries has been closely monitoring the rapidly changing information about the novel coronavirus and COVID-19, the illness that it causes. “We have been tracking where the virus has been reported with an eye toward making decisions regarding our rebuilding project sites and out of concern for our volunteers, leaders, host communities, and the clients in whose homes we work,” said an announcement today. “After considerable discussion and prayer, BDM has made the decision to temporarily suspend all volunteer travel to rebuilding sites.” Read more »

Church of the Brethren staff plan to go forward with spring and summer events, while monitoring circumstances surrounding coronavirus (March 6, 2020)

The Church of the Brethren staff planning events this spring and summer do not intend to make any cancellations because of the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus). However, they are assessing risks and monitoring information from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and other health authorities to plan ahead for eventualities and circumstances beyond their control.
