Office of Peacebuilding and Policy participates in NCC observance, ‘A Day of Remembrance and Lament’  (October 24, 2019)

This year, 2019, marks the 400-year anniversary of the first enslaved African persons being brought to North America. In 1619, a ship carrying the first group of enslaved people from Africa arrived on the shores of what is now known as Virginia. According to records, there were “20 and odd Africans” on board the ship who, upon arrival, were forced into slavery or indentured servitude. Read more »

Mission and Ministry Board approves 2020 budget for denominational ministries (October 24, 2019)

The 2020 budget for denominational ministries was a key item at fall meetings of the Church of the Brethren Mission and Ministry Board on Oct. 17-21 at the General Offices in Elgin, Ill. Brethren Volunteer Service Unit 324 completes training (October 24, 2019)

The fall 2019 unit of Brethren Volunteer Service (BVS) has completed orientation and its 13 volunteers have begun their work at project sites across the United States, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland. Annual Conference 2020 logo is released, moderator shares thoughts on theme (October 11, 2019)

The gift continues: Puerto Rican Brethren host celebration of Heifer’s 75th anniversary (October 11, 2019)

The 75th anniversary of Heifer International was celebrated Oct. 5, in Castañer, P.R., hosted by Puerto Rico District of the Church of the Brethren, the Castañer congregation, and Castañer Hospital. Puerto Rico was the destination of the very first shipment of animals made by the Church of the Brethren’s Heifer Project in 1944. Read more »
