The theme for NYC 2006 is "
Come and See," based on John 1:35-39. In this passage, when the disciples asked Jesus where he was staying, instead of just telling them, he invited them to "come and see." This is in keeping with Church of the Brethren heritage; letting actions speak louder than words. By inviting the disciples to come and see, Jesus was calling them to a disciples life. NYC is our invitation to come and see who God is calling us to become as individuals, as disciples of Christ, as the Church of the Brethren, and as people of God living in a broken world. Jesus' invitation to the disciples, and to us, is "Come and See."

It has often been said that life is a journey of discovery. We each have the opportunity to create our own paths and yet each of our paths is intrinsically connected. We are connected by our relationships, choices, and by the questions we encounter on the way:
What are you looking for?
What do you need?
Who are you following?
Who are you?

These are the questions that Jesus poses to John’s disciples when he meets them on the path of life. And then he invites them to share the road with him for a while. Hear the story of their invitation to discipleship:
“The next day John again was standing with two of his disciples, and as he watched Jesus walk by, he exclaimed, ‘Look, here is the Lamb of God!’ The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, ‘What are you looking for?’ They said to him, ‘Rabbi’ (which translated means teacher), ‘Where are you staying?’ He said to them, ‘Come and see.’ They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him that day.” ~John 1:35-39
As we embark on the journey to NYC, we, like John’s disciples, are also invited to share this road with Jesus: to remain with him for a time, to experience what he is like, and to see who he wants us to become. This is an invitation to discipleship and along the way we are all invited to explore our own selves, our church, our community, and our relationship with God.
What are you looking for?
What do you need?
Who are you following?
Who are you?
Come and join us on this journey of discovery. Come and see how we are all connected. Come and see how God lives, moves and breathes among us. Come and see.
