| What? |
The Creation Care Congregation program is an opportunity for congregations to make stewardship of creation a regular part of their worship and witness. |
| Why? |
God's creation is straining beneath the practices of humankind. Consider:
- Biologists call this the Sixth Great Extinction periodand the first to be caused not by an outside force but by one of the species, namely humankind
- North Americans consume their weight in materials every day, leading to the generation of enormous quantities of waste and rapid depletion of the earth's bounty
- Indicators around the globe point to a rapid warming of the earth due to carbon dioxide emissions and the subsequent "greenhouse effect"
|
| How? |
The program provides ideas for: how individuals can make daily decisions to care for creation; how church facilities can be used more efficiently; using curriculum and worship resources to raise awareness of the biblical basis of stewardship of creation; being active in sharing views with elected representatives as key environmental legislation is introduced; opportunities to take part in workcamps and learning tours that provide education and action. |
